چکیده

Several known triterpenoids have been isolated from the roots of Lantana camara L. along with two new ones namely: 3ß,19α-dihydroxy-ursan-28-oic acid (7) and methyl 21,22ß-epoxy-3ß-hydroxy-olean-12-en-28-oate (8a). The hepatoprotective principle, oleanolic acid (1), from the roots has been converted into its 28-->13ß-lactone 10 by a facile photo-oxidation reaction. The leaves of L. camara have yielded an essential oil which is rich, mainly, in sesquiterpenes. CIMAP communication no. 99/73J. *Author for correspondence.
